Thermal mixing of two fluids at different temperatures is the most common phenomenon in everyday life. Examples of such cases include the mixing of hot and cold water in the bathroom, the mixing of air in air conditioning ducts, the mixing of hot and cold water at T-junctions in nuclear power plants, and other industrial applications. The mixing is quite complex, and it is difficult to estimate temperature fields as well as heat flux at walls. The direct measurement of the temperature field is difficult as the sensors will disturb the flow. The inverse heat transfer technique (IHTT) is used in such cases for the estimation of thermal conditions.
